Not really. If you keep the TV on for 4 hours a day, every day, it would add around $1-3 to your monthly bill*. That’s about 4 to 10 cents per day; less than most people spend charging their phones and laptops combined.
*Based on a U.S. average energy cost of $0.15/kWh and a 55” TV using ~100W/hour. In most countries, including across Europe, the cost is similar: around €3–4/month for the same use.
A 55″ modern TV showing art or ambient video uses about as much electricity (around 100W/h) as two old-school light bulbs. It’s far less energy-hungry than devices like ovens or hair dryers. For perspective, keeping your TV on with art for 4 hours a day, every day for a month, uses about the same energy as baking 2 or 3 pizzas in an electric oven.
